Othniel means "Lion of God" or "God is force". He is the judge after Joshua & the elders that outlived Joshua are gone. He judged Israel from 2541 FC to 2581 FC (1427 BC – 1387 BC | 40 yrs) when Israel was sold to the Mesopotamians. He is the 2nd judge, the 1st being Joshua son of Nun.

Othniel is the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, from the tribe of Judah. He defeated Chushanrishathaim (meaning "twice-wicked Cushan", cushan means "the blackness"), the king of the Mesopotamians
